Notice Regarding Emails Impersonating the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG) Staff Members

We have recently confirmed that suspicious emails have been sent by individuals impersonating researchers at the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG).

(Confirmed Cases)
(1) Fraudulent emails claiming to be from an IOG researcher that invite the recipient to exchange views or to speak at a symposium, and direct the recipient to a URL of unknown origin.

(2) Fraudulent emails claiming to be from an IOG researcher that request the referral of a speaker for a nonexistent event, and ask the recipient for a reply.

(Fake Email Account)
(1) firstname.lastname (researcher’s name)@apintiative.org
*This is a fraudulent domain in which the second “i” in “initiative” is missing.
*Previously, some staff members and researchers used the apinitiative.org domain, which was the domain of the Asia Pacific Initiative. However, as we transitioned to the ihj.global domain in March 2026, the apinitiative.org domain is no longer in use.

(2) firstname.lastname (researcher’s name)@ihj-global.info
*This address closely resembles our official email address, but it is a fraudulent domain that ends in “.info.” We do not use this domain, and all official IOG emails end in “.global”.

In addition to the cases described above, impersonation incidents targeting think tanks and academic organizations have been occurring frequently in recent years. Please check this notice on the IOG website for further information.

Neither the International House of Japan nor the Institute of Geoeconomics has any involvement whatsoever in the sending of such emails. If you receive a similar email, please exercise extreme caution regarding its content, refrain from accessing any URLs listed in the email or download any attachments, and delete the email immediately.

If you have been affected in any way by these emails, are experiencing trouble of any kind, or have concerns that they may be linked to fraudulent activity, please consult the police, the Innovation Platform Agency, Japan (IPA) or other relevant authorities.
