Profile

Masahito Kaneko is a Research Assistant of the China Group at the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG). He specializes in the History of International Relations in East Asia, Japanese Diplomatic History, and International Cultural Relations. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts and Sciences (International Relations) at the University of Tokyo (UT), he joined the Japan Foundation (JF) in 2011. At JF, he worked on youth exchange programs at the China Center, Japanese language education in China at the Beijing Office, and the promotion of Japanese studies in China and East Asia in the Japanese Studies Department. In 2021, while working for JF, he began his master’s studies at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (International Relations) at UT and received his master’s degree in 2024. In the same year, he left JF to begin his PhD studies at UT. He joined IOG in September 2024.
